Dear viewers of Peruprofundodance.com,

In regards to the Oct. 21st performance that we cancelled there are many things to say. As a Peruvian-American woman who has admired some of the people that our dancers were supposed to work with, I was greatly disillusioned to have the horrible experience that I had tonight. The Peruvian Arts society organized the event and informed us that two of our dancers would be performing in collaboration with professional artists from a well-known California group. However, as it turned out, we were not scheduled to perform definitively and it was actually an audition and with a great lack of courtesy and tact towards those of us who were there to spend late-night hours rehearsing. Furthermore, there were Peruvians there (claiming to be journalists) with no formal knowledge of dance, who were present only to belittle and speak badly of our dancers to others. In the end, Peru Profundo Dance Company knows that we do not identify with the negativity shown towards us tonight. After this terrible experience, we are certain that our work is separate, unique and crucial because despite having already graced many stages in our four years of existence, we enlighten people of various cultures about Peruvian dance (which, by the way, has nothing to do with humiliating people) without losing our humility and our humanity.

Sincerely,

Kathy Bardales

Co-director of Peru Profundo Dance.

Atentamente,

Kathy Bardales

Co-directora de Peru Profundo Dance.

while i wasn't there to experience what happened, it really goes to show what type of people are out there. seriously, what was the point of attending a rehersal only to snicker and make remarks? it seems that only responding to these requests was a complete waste of time and energy. unfortunately, in recieving some sort of apology from someone involved that night would be asking too much. i would only expect that from someone who would be known in mannerisms.

We thank you, and give all our support Kathy, your group is doing such a great job in the different communities, and you show and bring to ordinary people and children that they can be succesful and learn other cultures and folk through dance and music. Keep the unity and development of your audience and participants. That it is wonderful!
